Alpe d'Huez ist einer der Giganten, dem ich bisher noch nicht die angemessene Aufmerksamkeit zukommen liess. Mit 69 Liften (davon 59 zählbare) ist Alpe d'Huez die Nummer 13 der Welt (skiresort.de). Bei meinem ersten Besuch 2006 konnten gesundheitsbedingt nur 13 Lifte befahren werden (Link zum Bericht) - Anlass genug, um gleich 2 Tage hier einzuplanen und in der Station, die auf 1800 m liegt zu nächtigen. Die Lifte erschliessen den Ort von überall her, wir sind im Quartier Vieil Alpe und können vom Hotel abfahren und dann sowohl über den Grand Sure als auch über den Huez Express ins Skigebiet einsteigen. Das macht schon Spass!
2006 war ich nicht so beeindruckt vom Skigebiet, dieses Mal war die Sicht besser und sogar ohne, dass ich diesmal auf dem Pic Blanc war (zuerst wegen Wind geschlossen, dann zu viele Leute) hat es mir besser gefallen. Vielleicht auch, weil ich einen anderen Blick auf flache Pisten habe, störten mich die blauen Pisten gleich beim Ort nicht. Das Gebiet besteht aus zahlreichen Sektoren mit unterschiedlichen Charaktistiken: Nach Oz hinunter sind es verschiedene rote Hänge, in Vaujany ist es einerseits die steilere Abfahrt "La Fare", Villard Reculas 1500 hätte bei besserer Schneelage auch steilere Hänge, Auris en Oisans ist ein ganzes Skigebiet für sich mit einem schönen Abzweiger nach Maronne - kurz: ein tolles Gebiet um zu Cruisen. Und so fällt mein Urteil diesmal bedeutend besser aus. Noch 28.

Alpe d'Huez is one of the giants that I have not yet given the attention it deserves. With 69 lifts (59 of which can be counted), Alpe d'Huez is number 13 in the world (skiresort.de). On my first visit in 2006, I was only able to use 13 lifts due to the health conditions of my companion (link to report) - reason enough to plan 2 days here and spend the night in the station, which is located at 1800 m above sea level. The lifts provide access to the resort from everywhere, we are in the Vieil Alpe district and can from the hotel access the ski area via both the Grand Sure and the Huez Express. That's great fun!
In 2006 I was not so impressed with the ski area, this time the view was better and even without being on the Pic Blanc this time (first closed due to wind, then too many people) I liked it better. Perhaps also because I have a different view of flat slopes, I didn't mind the blue slopes right next to the village. The area consists of numerous sectors with different characteristics: Down to Oz there are various red slopes, in Vaujany it's the steeper run "La Fare" on the one hand, Villard Reculas 1500 would also have steeper slopes if the snow conditions were better, Auris en Oisans is a whole ski area in itself with a nice turn-off to Maronne - in short: a great area for cruising.
