Am achten Tag der Reise bin ich zum ersten Mal im Plan. Am 4. Januar war Purgatory geplant, und am 4. Januar ist es Purgatory! Alle anderen Reisetage bisher haben Änderungen erfahren, heute aber läuft alles wie nach Plan:
Aufstehen in Durango, einer 1881 als Verkehrsknotenpunkt zu den Minenstädten gegründeten Stadt. Kurze Fahrt nach Purgatory, das überraschenderweise gleich am Highway beginnt.
Skifahren im Gebiet.
Weiterfahrt nach Ouray,
Trotz der schlechten Schneelage ist rund die Hälfte des Gebiets geöffnet. Das heisst, neben den grünen und vielen blauen Pisten sind auch einige der Varianten geöffnet. Das Gebiet besteht hauptsächlich aus Liften, die parallel zueinander hoch zu einem Bergrücken führen. Aus meiner Sicht besteh das Gebiet aus drei Bereichen: Dem Anfängersektor ganz unten, dem Sektor um den Purgatory Village Express mit den meisten Verticals, und dem hinteren Teil, bestehend aus drei Liften. Die Varianten sind in der Regel oben flach und werden gegen unten steiler. Am anspruchvollsten scheinen die Abfahrten am Legends Express.
Mit so vielen Abfahrten haben wir nicht gerechnet, so machen wir uns ziemlich happy auf den Weg über diverse Pässe und vorbei an Silverton nach Ouray, dem Switzerland of America.

On the eighth day of the trip, I am on plan for the first time. January 4 was scheduled for Purgatory, and on January 4 it is indeed Purgatory. Every other travel day so far has involved changes, but today everything goes exactly according to plan:
Waking up in Durango, a town founded in 1881 as a transportation hub for the mining towns. A short drive to Purgatory, which surprisingly starts right off the highway.
Skiing in the resort.
Continuing on to Ouray.
Despite the poor snow situation, about half of the resort is open. This means that, in addition to the green and many blue runs, several of the variants are also accessible. The area mainly consists of lifts running parallel to each other up to a ridgeline. From my perspective, the resort can be divided into three sections: the beginner area at the very bottom, the sector around the Purgatory Village Express with the most vertical, and the back side, made up of three lifts. The variants are generally flatter at the top and become steeper toward the bottom. The most challenging terrain appears to be off the Legends Express.
We did not expect so much open terrain, and we therefore set off in a very good mood, crossing several mountain passes and passing Silverton on the way to Ouray, the Switzerland of America.
