Heute ist der erste Tag, an dem ich die 700-Resort-Schwelle erreichen könnte. Es muss einiges zusammenstimmen, Dinge, die ich nicht beeinflussen kann:
Es ist Hochsaison, Parkplätze dürften rar sein und die Schlangen an den Liften lang. Dann braucht es an einem bestimmten Lift Schnee – der Lift liegt auf knapp 1500 Metern über Meer an einem Sonnenhang, und es gibt keine Online-Präsenz, bei der ich die Schneelage überprüfen kann. Und wenn ich mir gestern bei der Anfahrt nach Zams die Berge so angeschaut habe, waren die Sonnenhänge bis weit hinauf aper. Und dann braucht es immer noch ein weiteres Gebiet, das ich bis 1600 Uhr erreichen kann – dann schliessen die Lifte.

Nun, ich versuche dort zu beeinflussen, wo ich beeinflussen kann. Das ist beim Aufstehen und dann beim Losfahren in Zams. Ich bin für einmal richtig früh und um 8.15 Uhr bereits in See auf dem (noch leeren) Parkplatz. An der Kasse hat es genau eine Person vor mir und an der Vintage-Gondelbahn warten vielleicht 50 Personen darauf, dass es losgeht. Und tatsächlich, bereits um 8:25 bin ich in der Gondel, die mich zum Medrig Center bringt, dem Infrastruktur-Zentrum mit Skischulgelände, Restaurant und allem, was es so für einen Skitag braucht. Und ich staune nicht schlecht, als ich aus der Bergstation der Gondel trete: Da lacht mir eine ziemlich steile ziemlich geile schwarze Abfahrt ins Gesicht. Soviel zu Familienskigebiet, denke ich. Der Sessellift (Zeinis) bringt mich dann dieser Piste entlang hinauf zum Gratli, dem Punkt, von wo man die Möglichkeit hat, entweder wieder die Vorderseite hinunter zu fahren oder eben hinten in die Backbowl – einen weiten Talkessel, der einige tolle Abfahrten bietet und interessanterweise von zwei neuen (die eine wurde 2022 eröffnet) Gondelbahnen erschlossen wird. Weshalb hier oben eine so teure neue Infrastruktur hingestellt wird, während die Zubringergondelbahn doch ziemlich vintage ist? (Ich glaube mal gehört zu haben, dass See sich leicht mit Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis verbinden liesse.) Auf jeden Fall bin ich begeistert und stelle mir vor, wie es hier wäre, wenn so ein richtig tiefer Powder-Dump liegen würde – es scheint, dass alle Seiten perfekte Freeride-Hänge bieten. So geniesse ich die Pisten (Rossmoos!!) und zuletzt die Talabfahrt, die als Ziehweg beginnt und sich ungefähr in der Hälfte in eine richtig tolle sportliche Piste verwandelt. Die maximal mögliche direkt ski-bare Höhendifferenz hier beträgt 1530m. I am impressed! Um viertel vor zehn steige ich ins Auto. Der Besuch hier hat weniger lange gedauert als geplant. Ob heute......?

Vielleicht 10 Minuten später parkiere ich das Auto auf dem Parkplatz vis-a-vis der Talstation Kappl. Der Herr an der Kasse teilt mir mit, dass es nur Halbtageskarten ab 11.30 Uhr gibt, andere Formate (wie z.B. die Rückerstattung beim vorzeitigen Zurückgeben des Tickets) verneint er. Auch ok denke ich, wenn das dazu beiträgt, dass sie hier die wirklich antiquierte Gondelbahn (erinnert sich noch jemand an die silberne 4er Gondel in Scuol? Die hier ist beinahe dieselbe, nur die Türe schliesst automatisch) ersetzen ok. Im Gegensatz zu See ist beinahe das gesamte Skigebiet von Kappl direkt gegen Süden ausgerichtet. Um so überraschter bin ich a) über die Schneequalität oben und b) über die offene Talabfahrt! Das Skigebiet besteht aus zwei Sektoren, die durch eine etwas steilere Bergflanke getrennt sind. Der vordere (westliche) Sektor am Albittköpfe wird ab dem Zentrum (Dias?) durch 2 Sessellifte erschlossen (der Skilift steht still), der hintere (östliche) durch einen Skilift und einen Sessellift. Die Pisten sind etwas weniger lange steil und stärker coupiert als in See, aber immer noch schön und gerade die Piste 3 nach Gongall lange genug steil um die Beine zu spüren. Höhepunkt ist dann die Lattenabfahrt, die am höchsten Punkt (Albittköpfe, 2690m) startet und 8km und 1510m weiter unten endet. Das sind tolle 12 Minuten Abfahrt! Zum Glück habe ich in See nicht auch die ganze Abfahrt non-stop gemacht, meine Saisonvorbereitung war doch nicht so toll. Als ich dann die Keycard für das Depot zurückgeben will schaut mich die Dame an der Kasse fragend an.
– Wollen Sie nicht mehr hoch?
– Nein, nur das Depot
– Das ist ja dann eine Halbtageskarte
– Der Herr neben Ihnen hat mir gesagt, dass es das nicht gibt.
– Natürlich gibt es das.
Und die Differenz wird mir zurückerstattet. Ich lerne: Wenn ich beim Kauf denke, dass was nicht stimmt an der Kasse, schaue ich, dass ich die Karte bei einer anderen Person retourniere.
Es ist 11.30 Uhr, als ich losfahre.

Am Ischgl-Saison-Closing habe ich bereits 2 Mal in Galtür übernachtet – das Skigebiet war dann aber schon länger geschlossen. Einmal bin ich mit Fellen hochgelaufen. Und heute läuft die Sache!
Die Charakteristik des Gebiets ist eine ganz andere: Nach den beiden Alpgebieten in See und Kappl (eine Zubringerbahn hoch zu einem Punkt, von dort verteilen sich die Lifte) ist Galtür ein Gipfelgebiet: verschiedene Lifte ziehen von verschiedenen Seiten hoch zu zu einem (mehr oder weniger gemeinsamen) Punkt. Die Pisten führen durch lose Felsbrocken, die von der Ballunspitze abgebrochen und sich auf dem Pass verteilt haben, und durch die Zirben (?), die das ganze Geländer besiedeln. Die Abfahrten sind eine Liftlänge lang, im Bereich Breitspitzbahn sehr interessant, aber auch sonst durchs Band spannend zu befahren. Ich habe keine einzige langweilige Piste gesehen.

No 699: Mathon – jetzt kommts gut
Bereits beim Hochfahren nach Galtür habe ich gesehen, dass dieser kleine Lift am Sonnenhang auf rund 1500 Metern über Meer in Betrieb ist! Damit lebt der Traum, heute bereits die 700 zu erreichen. Und ich finde sogar einen kleinen Parkplatz, von dem ich zum Lift fahren kann. Minimaltarif ist eine 10-Fahrten Karte – gekauft (und gleich oben an der Bergstation dem anderen Gast übergeben, der sich auch an diesem Lift aufhält). Nun sieht es auf einmal gut aus. Ich fahre los um 14.00 Uhr.

No 700: Grünberg Alm – ein kleines Skigebiet für die Menschheit, ein riesiges Skigebiet für mich.
Wenn man auf der Skiresort-App (danke Oliver Kern!) nach «in der Nähe» sucht, werden die Gebiete, die in Betrieb sind, zuweilen mit einer grünen Markierung angegeben (es gibt auch Ausnahmen, z.B. Mathon). Und eine dieser grünen Markierungen gehört zum – Wortwitz – Grünberglift bei Obsteig auf dem Miemminger Plateau, quasi auf dem Weg zu meiner Zieldestination heute. Nach etwas mehr als einer Stunde komme ich in Obsteig an und verpasse (?) die Wegweiser zum Lift. Wäre das nicht eine tolle Story? Ich finde mein 700. Gebiet nicht. Auf gut Glück fahre ich durch die Häuser und komme dann doch relativ einfach zu diesem kleinen weissen Schneefleck, der aus der braun-grünen Landschaft richtig hervorsticht. Und siehe da, es hat tatsächlich Menschen auf der Piste! Der Schneefleck wird auch beim Näherkommen nicht grösser – der Grünberglift hat eine Höhendifferenz von 72m. Woher die bei Skiresort angegebenen 1.2km Pistenlänge stammen kann ich mir beim besten Willen nicht erklären. Egal, der Grünberg Lift ist das perfekte Jubiläumsgebiet, weil es vieles verkörpert, was mich auf der Boucle bisher begleitet hat: Zuerst ist es nicht immer einfach, das Gebiet überhaupt zu finden, dann ist die Freude riesig, es gefunden zu haben. Aber über allem steht die Freude der Kinder und Jugendlichen hier am Skifahren. Dafür braucht es keine 200 Lifte oder geheizte Sesselbahnen oder Fancy-Pancy-Features. Es reicht ein Skilift mit 72 Höhenmetern.

Today is the first day I could reach the 700-resort threshold. Things must be falling into place, things I can't influence:
It's high season, parking is likely to be scarce and the lines at the lifts long. Then there needs to be snow at a particular lift - the lift is at just under 1500 meters above sea level on a sunny slope, and there is no online presence where I can check the snow situation. And when I looked at the mountains yesterday on the way to Zams, the sunny slopes were off the ground until way up. And then it still needs another area that I can reach until 1600 o'clock - then the lifts close
No 696: See (not the series) - The early bird catches the free parking and the (almost) first gondola
Well, I try to influence where I can influence. That is when I get up and then when I leave Zams. For once I am really early and at 8.15 am already in See on the (still empty) parking lot. At the cash desk there is exactly one person in front of me and at the vintage gondola maybe 50 people are waiting for it to start. And indeed, at 8:25 a.m. I'm already in the gondola that takes me to the Medrig Center, the infrastructure center with ski school grounds, restaurant and everything else you need for a day of skiing. And I'm amazed when I step out of the top station of the gondola: there's a pretty steep, pretty awesome black run laughing in my face. So much for family skiing, I think. The chairlift (Zeinis) then takes me along this run up to the Gratli, the point from where you have the option of either skiing back down the front side or just back into the backbowl - a wide basin that offers some great runs and, interestingly, is served by two new (one opened in 2022) gondola lifts. Why put such expensive new infrastructure up here, while the feeder gondola is pretty vintage? (I think I once heard that See could easily be connected to Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis). In any case, I'm thrilled and imagine what it would be like here if there was such a really deep powder dump - it seems that all sides offer perfect freeride slopes. So I enjoy the slopes (Rossmoos!!) and lastly the valley run, which starts as a draw path and turns into a really great sporty slope about halfway down. The maximum possible directly skiable altitude difference here is 1530m. I am impressed! At quarter to ten I get into the car. The visit here took less time than planned. Whether today......?

No 697: Kappl - ticket purchase is a matter of luck
Maybe 10 minutes later I park the car on the parking lot vis-a-vis the valley station Kappl. The gentleman at the ticket office tells me that there are only half-day tickets available from 11:30 a.m., he denies other formats (such as refunds if you return the ticket early). Also ok I think, if that helps them get the really antiquated gondola here (anyone else remember the silver 4-person gondola in Scuol? This one is almost the same, only the door closes automatically) replace ok. Unlike See, almost the entire ski area of Kappl faces directly south. I am all the more surprised a) by the snow quality at the top and b) by the open valley run! The ski area consists of two sectors, separated by a somewhat steeper mountain flank. The front (western) sector at the Albittköpfe is accessed from the center (slides?) by 2 chairlifts (the ski lift is idle), the back (eastern) by a ski lift and a chairlift. The slopes are a bit less long steep and more couped than in See, but still nice and especially slope 3 to Gongall long enough steep to feel the legs. The highlight is then the Lattenabfahrt, which starts at the highest point (Albittköpfe, 2690m) and ends 8km and 1510m further down. That's a great 12 minutes of downhill! Luckily I didn't also do the whole downhill non-stop in See, my season preparation wasn't that great after all. When I then want to return the keycard for the depot the lady at the cashier looks at me questioningly.
- Don't you want to go up again?
- No, only the depot
- That is then a half-day ticket
- The gentleman next to you tells me that there is no such thing.
- Of course there is.
And the difference will be refunded to me. I learn: If I think something is wrong at the checkout, I return the ticket to someone else.
It's 11:30 a.m. when I leave.

No 698: Galtür - finally
At the Ischgl season closing I already stayed 2 times in Galtür - but the ski area was closed for a longer time. Once I skied up with skins. And today the thing runs!
The characteristic of the area is quite different: After the two alpine areas in See and Kappl (a feeder lift up to a point, from there the lifts spread out), Galtür is a summit area: different lifts pull up from different sides to a (more or less common) point. The runs pass through loose boulders that have broken off from Ballunspitze and spread across the pass, and through the stone pines (?) that populate the entire terrain. The descents are a lift length long, very interesting in the Breitspitzbahn area, but also otherwise exciting to ride through the band. I have not seen a single boring slope.

No 699: Mathon - important penultimate stopover
Already while driving up to Galtür I saw that this small lift on the sunny slope at about 1500 meters above sea level is in operation! Thus lives the dream to reach today already the 700. And I even find a small parking lot from which I can drive to the lift. Minimaltarif is a 10-ride card - bought (and immediately at the top of the mountain station handed over to the other guest, who is also at this lift). Now it looks good all at once. I leave at 14.00 o'clock.

No 700: Grünberg Alm - a small ski resort for mankind, a huge ski resort for me.
If you search for "nearby" on the Skiresort app (thanks Oliver Kern!), the areas that are in operation are sometimes indicated with a green marker (there are also exceptions, e.g. Mathon). And one of these green markings belongs to the - pun - Grünberglift near Obsteig on the Miemminger Plateau, virtually on the way to my destination today. After a little more than an hour I arrive in Obsteig and miss (?) the signposts to the lift. Wouldn't that be a great story? I don't find my 700th area. On the off chance I drive through the houses and come then nevertheless relatively simply to this small white snow spot, which sticks out from the brown-green landscape correctly. And lo and behold, it actually has people on the slope! The snow patch doesn't get any bigger as you get closer - the Grünberg lift has a height difference of 72m. Where the 1.2km slope length stated at Skiresort comes from I can't explain with the best will in the world. Anyway, the Grünberg lift is the perfect anniversary area, because it embodies much of what has accompanied me on the Boucle so far: First, it's not always easy to find the area at all, then the joy of having found it is immense. But above all, the children and young people here enjoy skiing. You don't need 200 lifts or heated chairlifts or fancy-pancy features for that. One ski lift with 72 vertical meters is enough.
